Yesterday, on the occasion of the feast of women, the President of the Republic went to Sejenane. As with each of his visits to the field, he was surrounded by a dense crowd of citizens who came to meet him. A video broadcast by the presidency notably shows an exchange which caught attention.
A resident challenged the head of state to denounce what he describes as spoliation : he says that Khayam Turki would have appropriated around 450 hectares of agricultural land in order to convert them into a tourist project. According to him, this affair dates back to 2009 but justice is slow to decide.
The president reacted immediately by ordering the follow -up of this file, promising to follow up on it. This gesture illustrates a communicational approach which now seems to be privileged by the presidency: publicly exhibiting certain sensitive cases instead of treating them discreetly.
Who is Khayem Turki?
A Tunisian politician and economist, Khayam Turki held various functions in the Ettakatol party before leaving him in 2015. Co-founder of the Think Tank al-Joussour, he was expected in 2020 for the post of head of government. Since 2023, he has been incarcerated in the context of a file qualified by the authorities of “conspiracy against state security”, a case denounced by several human rights NGOs.
