Tunisia confirms its role in Nippo-African cooperation: by participating in the Ticad 9 in Yokohama, the head of the Sarra government Zaafrani Zenzri defends a vision of an inclusive and innovative African development, three years after the reception of the Ticad 8 in Tunis.
The government’s chef, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, took part, from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Yokohama (Japan), in the work of the ninth Tokyo international conference on Africa’s development (Ticad 9). A participation that confirms Tunisia’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable African cooperation, in the continuity of the Ticad 8 organized in Tunis in 2022.
The conference, placed under the theme “The co-creation of innovative solutions with Africa”, brings together heads of state, representatives of international organizations and actors in the public and private sectors. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri represents Tunisia there, stressing the importance for the country to remain at the heart of regional and international initiatives in favor of development.
40 events
The program provides nearly 40 events devoted to economic, social and security exchanges, with particular attention paid to youth and innovation. The JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) will present several initiatives, including:
- Tomoni Africa: human resources development program, with the slogan “becoming friends”, aimed at strengthening exchanges between young Africans and Japanese;
- JICA Africa HOMETOWN: Relating between Japanese and African local authorities;
- Japan-Africa Youth Camp: Creation of a network for African and Japanese youth.
In his interventions, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri should recall the central place of Tunisia in Nippo-African cooperation. It will insist on the importance of pragmatic and solidarity solutions in the face of economic and social challenges, as well as the need to more involve young people and women in development.
92 Memorandums of understanding signed in 2022
Tunisia had welcomed the Ticad 8 on August 27 and 28, 2022, bringing together 48 African countries, including 20 represented at the level of the heads of state and government. This event had resulted in the signing of 92 memorandums of understanding, including 6 in favor of Tunisia, as well as by a loan intended for social protection and the implementation of projects in the sectors of water, electricity, industry and transport.
The Ticad 9 is therefore in line with this dynamic, with the assertive desire to strengthen tripartite and bilateral partnerships, and to accelerate concrete benefits for the African continent.
