On the sidelines of the 9th Summit of the International Conference of Tokyo on the development of Africa (Ticad 9), the Tunisian government’s chef, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, multiplied bilateral meetings this Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Tunis announced the upcoming opening of a direct airline with Douala (Cameroon) and reaffirmed, with Senegal, his desire to consolidate a strategic cooperation sustainable.
In Yokohama, Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri met the Cameroonian Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, and the Senegalese president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Facilitate investments and exchanges
With Cameroon, Tunisia has announced the progress of discussions for the opening of a direct Tunis – Douala airline. This link should facilitate investments, scientific, university and medical exchanges, as well as boosting the sectors of trade, industry, health and tourism.
With Senegal, the interview focused on strategic bilateral projects and the preparation of the Tuniso-Sénégalese mixed commission, scheduled for the first half of 2026.
Cooperation opportunities
The Cameroonian Prime Minister praised the diversity of Tunisian skills present in his country – doctors, engineers, companies – which already contribute to economic cooperation.
For his part, the Senegalese president insisted on the historical solidity of relations between Tunis and Dakar, while highlighting the opportunities for cooperation in the vital and technological sectors. He also underlined the convergence of positions between the two countries on major international causes, including the Palestinian question.
Ticad dynamics
Tunisia seeks to diversify its partnerships on the African continent by capitalizing on its strategic position as a gateway to Africa. These bilateral meetings are part of the dynamics of the Ticad, a platform initiated by Japan to strengthen the links of cooperation with Africa.
Note that Tunisia is the second African country, after Kenya in 2016, to have hosted an edition of the Ticad, in 2022.
These announcements confirm the Tunisian strategy for strengthening its African anchoring, with particular attention paid to vital sectors and major international files.
