The Ministry of Commerce announced on Wednesday August 20, 2025 the continuation of the importation of refrigerated red meat in order to contain the outbreak of prices. Bovine meat will be sold at 37,900 dinars per kilo and sheep meat at 38,900 dinars, in points of sale coordinated with local authorities and Ellouhoum.

During an intervention on Jawhara FM, Ramzi Trabelsi, director of the National Observatory for supply and prices, said that sheep -meat cargo, a volume of 20 tonnes per week, will be made available to consumers at a preferential price. Imported refrigerated beef will be offered at 37,900 dinars/kg.

Regulate the market

This operation is part of a joint plan with the company Ellouhoum, intended to regulate the market, strengthen supply and lighten the pressure on the purchasing power of households.

The Ministry of Commerce has called on governors to set up drivers’ points of sale to ensure better distribution, in partnership with wholesale markets and butchers.

Illegal practices observed

At the same time, Ramzi Trabelsi denounced the illegal practices observed in several grilled establishments. According to him, these offenses noted by the economic control services, with the support of the security forces, have increased the rise in prices on the local market.

The Tunisian market has been experiencing strong tension for red meat prices for several months, accentuated by speculation and the drop in purchasing power. Faced with this situation, the government multiplies targeted import measures to stabilize prices and guarantee the availability of the product.
