On the sidelines of the Berlin conference on Libya, which was held this Sunday, December 19, 2020, a final declaration was published.

Participants in the Berlin conference for an exit from the crisis in Libya, called, in their final declaration, to perpetuate the truce, to stop the attacks against the oil fields, to form unified Libyan military forces, and to respect the embargo on arms.

This conference saw the participation of Germany, the United States, Russia, Great Britain, France, China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Congo, Italy, Egypt, Algeria, the UN, the European Union, the African Union and the League of Arab States, as well as the two main rivals of the conflict, El-Sarraj and Khelifa Haftar.

Participants called to establish the ceasefire, to put an end to all the military actions of the belligerents, and undertook to no longer interfere in the armed conflict and in Libyan domestic affairs, calling all the international parties to follow their steps.

The final statement has emphasized the central role of the United Nations, on the support of the full political operation, and on national reconciliation.

They also prompted the disarmament of different armed groups, and to integrate members into Libyan civil, military and security institutions. They called for the creation of an army, and a police under the aegis of the central authority.

The signatories of the final declaration announced the training of an international monitoring committee, under the sponsorship of the United Nations, to continue the coordination about the results of the Berlin Conference.

They also called for the creation of a mechanism for the reconstruction of the economy in Libya, under the authority of the unified government, by regulating the situation in the cities of Benghazi, Derna, Sebha, Syrte and Tripoli.
