The Palestinians renounced, this Monday, February 10, to ask a vote on Tuesday from the UN Security Council of a resolution rejecting the American peace plan.
According to AFP agency, the Palestinians withdrew this text for lack of sufficient international support and due to strong American pressures on the supports of their president Mahmoud Abbas.
“Carried by Indonesia and Tunisia, the text was likely not to have nine votes in its favor out of fifteen, the minimum required for an adoption, outside the veto of a permanent member country,” said a diplomat at the same source.
“The countries supporting the Palestinians were subjected to Washington’s” very strong pressure “with threats of financial retaliation measures,” it was also said.
Tunisia had distributed to the members of the UN Security Council a document containing elements of a draft resolution on the peace process in the Middle East, in which it condemned the American plan and the agreement of the century.
