Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi threatened yesterday June 20, from direct military intervention in Libya, in view of the advancement of the forces of the government of National Union (GNA), supported by Turkey.
“Any progress in Libya of the forces of the Government of National Union may lead to direct intervention of Egypt,” he said, considering the city of Syrte as a red line.
“If this line is crossed, the security of Egypt, which shares a porous border with Libya, will require a” direct intervention “of the Egyptian forces in the country,” he said.
For the GNA, this is an “interference in (internal) affairs and a serious threat to the national security of Libya” and “international peace”, said Mohamad Amari Zayed, member of the GNA presidential council.
It is in this tense regional context that the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, goes to France by invitation from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. And it is in particular the Libyan file which knows day after day, new twists and turns which will be on the agenda of this visit.
