The announcement made this Tuesday, August 11, 2020 is unexpected. Russian president Vladimir Putin said that Russia has developed the first coronavirus vaccine. An announcement made during a video conference with members of the government and broadcast on television.
“This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus has been recorded,” said Vladimir Putin. “I know it is quite effective, that it gives lasting immunity”. The Russian president even said that one of his daughters had been inoculated the vaccine, the Interfax agency reported.
The question is now whether this vaccine is effective, foreign scientists expressing their concern in the face of the speed of the development of such a vaccine while WHO had called for compliance with “guidelines and clear directives” in terms of development of this type of product. According to Putin, this vaccine will be put into circulation on January 1, 2021.
Russia has been working for months, like many other countries, on several COVVI-19 vaccine projects. The one developed by the Gamaleïa Center is in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense.
