The parties in conflict in Libya signed, this Friday, October 23, 2020, a national and permanent ceasefire, after five days of discussions in Geneva organized under the aegis of the UN.
“The Libyan parties have reached a permanent ceasefire agreement throughout Libya. This accomplishment represents an important turning point towards peace and stability in Libya, “said the UN support mission in Libya (Manul).
The agreement was reached between the government of national understanding (Gen), in place in Tripoli and recognized by the international community, and the Libyan National Army (ANL) of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, strong man in East Libyan.
The acting of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, a mediator in the conflict, said he was confident on Wednesday in the conclusion of a lasting ceasefire in the country in view of the discussions made in Geneva.
