An earthquake of magnitude 7 on the Richter scale struck west of Turkey, this Friday, October 31, 2020. This earthquake felt to Istanbul and Athens, caused the collapse of several buildings, reported the Institute of American Geophysics (USGS) and the Turkish media.
According to the Turkish authorities and the Institute of American Geophysics (USGS), the shock occurred at ten km deep in the Aegean Sea, southwest of Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey, and near the Greek island of Samos.
The Turkish Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soyu, reported on Twitter the collapse of several buildings. “At this stage, we have received information that six buildings collapsed in Bornova and Bayrakli.”
Many people are stuck in the rubble, said Environment Minister Murat Kurum said.
