A breakthrough, according to the United Nations (UN).
A few days after the launch of negotiations, participants in the Dialogue Forum on the future of Libya, held in Tunis, reached an agreement on election holding within 18 months.
According to Stephanie Williams, representative of the UN, it is a breakthrough and a real dynamic long awaited for the country torn by the conflicts and instability.
The agreement in principle relates to a roadmap supposed to lead to “free, fair, inclusive and credible presidential and legislative elections with stages to unify the Libyan institutions, she said.
Recall that Tunisia has been hosting, since Monday, November 9, 2020, the Libyan political dialogue forum, held under the slogan “Libya first”. A crucial and expected meeting to achieve reconciliation between the different parties and develop a roadmap for elections.
In total, 75 participants representing 13 Libyan factions will take part in this event: members of the Tobrouk Parliament, members of the High Council of State and the participants selected by the UN.
