The World Health Organization (WHO) has spoken out on the new strain of the Coronavirus recently discovered in Britain. For WHO even if it is a faster and more effective variant of the virus, “it did not represent a situation out of control”.
If the British Minister of Health had mentioned an alarming situation, the World Health Organization considered that the new variant of coronavirus did not represent, in fact, a situation “out of control”.
“We had an R0 (reproduction rate of the virus, editor’s note) much higher than 1.5 at different times in this pandemic and we have mastered it,” said the head of health emergency situations at the WHO, during a press conference on Monday, December 21, quoted by the AFP agency. The WHO, however, called to maintain health measures to combat the pandemic.
The British government announced on Saturday, December 19, the reconfirms of London, southeast of England and part of the East on Saturday, December 19, forcing more than 16 million inhabitants to stay at home and give up the end of years celebrations.
This comes following the discovery of a new strain of the coronavirus which is spread quickly in this country. “A new strain of the coronavirus out of control,” British Minister of Health Matt Hancock said in this sense. “We had to regain control, and the only way to do so, is to restrict social contacts,” he said, quoted by several British media.
