Two days after the Capitol attack by Donald Trump supporters, who shocked worldwide, the Twitter social network has decided to take strong measures and finally decided not to wait for the passage of power with Joe Biden to ban the account of Donald Trump.
The attack on the Capitol had pushed Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch to react to sanction Donald Trump, still president of the United States in practice knowing that he could encourage this attack with his speech calling for walking on the Capitol.
After a temporary blockage and the abolition of several tweets, on the night of January 8 to 9, 2021, Twitter announced additional measures against Donald Trump. Citing the very particular context of Donald Trump’s latest tweets, Twitter announced that he had made the decision to suspend Donald Trump’s account permanently.
To justify this decision, Twitter relies on the last two tweets of Donald Trump in which the president indicated on the one hand that his voters “would not be treated disrespectfully or unjustly”, before indicating that he would not participate in the inauguration of Joe Biden as new President of the United States.
According to Twitter, these two messages can legitimately be interpreted by his supporters as new indications that Donald Trump does not recognize the election of Joe Biden, and more specifically his defeat certified by the American Congress.
Twitter indicates, moreover, having detected that many accounts had started to interpret the tweets of Donald Trump as incentives for violence.
Thursday, Facebook and other services like Snapchat or Twitch also suspended the profile of Donald Trump for an indefinite period. But with more than 88 million subscribers, Twitter is Donald Trump’s favorite platform, the one that serves him to make political announcements, thread against the media or insult her opponents on a daily basis.
