Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced, in a speech this Thursday, February 18, evening, the dissolution of the National People’s Assembly (APN) and the organization of anticipated legislative elections.
This decision comes in accordance with the provisions of article 151 of the Constitution which stipulates that “the President of the Council of the Nation, the President of the National People’s Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Court and the Prime Minister or the Head of Government, as the case, consulted, the President of the Republic can decide on the dissolution of the National People’s Assembly or anticipated legislative elections. In both cases, the legislative elections take place within a maximum of three months. In the event that these elections cannot be organized within the deadlines provided due to any impossibility, this period may be extended by a maximum duration of three (3) months after the advisor’s advice ”.
“I decided to dissolve the National People’s Assembly which will be followed by the organization of the legislative elections to give the chance to young Algerians,” said President Tebboune. He is also preparing to operate a government reshuffle in the coming 48 hours.
