The government of national unity led by Abdelhamid Dbeiba to lead the country to presidential and legislative elections on December 24, this Wednesday, March 10, 2021, obtained the confidence of the Parliament.
More than 100 of the 130 members of the Parliament gathered in Syrte since Monday approved the Dbeiba cabinet, formed as part of a process supervised by the United Nations.
Abdelhamid Dbeiba had been appointed acting Prime Minister last month by 75 Libyan officials of all stripes during a forum organized by the UN in Geneva.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, congratulated, the president of the Council of the Libyan presidency, Mohamed Menfi following the obtaining of the government of the confidence of the Parliament.
During a telephone interview, the head of state reaffirmed to Mohamed Menfi “solidarity, mutual aid and unity of destiny shared by Tunisia and Libya” and his “total confidence in the ability of our Libyan brothers to strengthen the foundations of peace and stability” and to “devote the transition phase by installing sustainable institutions”, said a press release from the President of the Republic.
The Head of State also recalled that “the security and stability of Libya are also those of Tunisia” and “will open new horizons of cooperation and complementary and solidarity partnership” between the two countries.
The president of the Council of the Libyan Presidency elected, for his part, expressed his recognition on the initiative of President Saïed, welcoming that “the first congratulations come from Tunisia”, added the press release.
