In Egypt, in a rare exception, a presidential decree authorized a diplomat to marry a Tunisian.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi made a republican decision authorizing the marriage of an Egyptian diplomat with a Tunisian citizen.

The information has aroused many reactions on social networks where Internet users have wondered about the reasons why a marriage contract requires the publication of a republican decision.

According to a source from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by Skynews, the organization of the diplomatic and consular body fixes clear conditions for anyone asks to join the department. The candidate must be an Egyptian of Egyptian parents by birth, his wife must also be Egyptian.

The Egyptian diplomat added that, according to law, and by also using diplomatic standard, any person who marries a foreigner is considered to be resigning from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“There is only one case in which a diplomat is authorized to marry a non-Egyptian: the woman must be of Arab nationality and that the diplomat files a request for authorization to the President of the Republic before marrying,” he explains.

“The sensitivity of the work of affiliates to the diplomatic corps, as well as to the Ministry of Defense, requires preserving the purity of Egyptian identity,” he adds.
