The news was announced on the official Twitter account of the royal family. Prince Philip, husband of the Queen of England since 1952, died this Friday, April 9 at the age of 99.
“It is with a deep sorrow that His Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh”, according to a press release from the Buckingham, adding that Prince Philip, who had been hospitalized recently, died “peacefully morning at the castle of Windsor”.
“My first, second and ultimate job is to never drop the queen,” he had explained to her private secretary, Michael Parker, just after her marriage, in 1947.
Philip was born in Corfu on June 10, 1921, with the titles of Prince of Greece and Denmark. He served in the Navy during the Second World War.
