“Justice or chaos”, the discontent of clubists!

The Omar Laabidi affair takes on a new magnitude with the announcement of the verdict against the convicted police. While justice rejects any pressure in this case, club supporters raise the worst: to strengthen impunity in Tunisia.

Two years in prison against twelve police officers involved in the death of the young club supporter over four and a half ago in Radès and sentenced for manslaughter.

This verdict makes a stir on social networks and some warn against a slippage since according to club supporters, this conviction could strengthen the risk of impunity in Tunisia.

An observation shared by supporters from several other teams. Besides, on Facebook, a hashtag was shared as a trained of powder: justice or chaos, warn the clubists’ supporters. In this sense, the founders of the “T3alem 3oum” campaign (Learn to swim) have decided to appeal against this verdict and promise new revelations.

Lawyer Toumi Ben Farhat, of the defense committee of Omar Laabidi, explained this decision by the fact that the sentenced security security was accused of manslaughter while the committee had called to judge them for non-assistance to a person in danger, adding that the sentence in this case could go up to 5 years in prison.

Yesterday, the criminal chamber with the Ben Arous court sentenced to two years in prison, twelve security security, involved in the death of the supporter of the African club for manslaughter while a dismissal was pronounced in favor of two other defendants.

After four hearings already postponed, Ben Arous’s first instance court had held a fifth hearing on October 20. Fourteen security officers, absent from previous hearings, had appeared, in a state of freedom, during this hearing.

The criminal chamber then decided to postpone the verdict in this case, on November 3, 2022. These 14 security agents are accused of manslaughter and non-assistance to a person in danger in the case of the drowning of the young Omar Laabidi.

Omar Laabidi died on March 31, 2018 at the age of 19 at the end of the Ligue 1 meeting, which opposed the African club to Médenine Olympique in Rades and was recovered the day after the Meliane wadi.

He had fallen into wadi following a fight between two groups of supporters in the stands trying to flee the police who intervened to separate the two belligerent groups and chased them to the outside of the stadium.
