A team of Egyptian archaeologists unearthed a “lost city” 3000 years old in Luxor. This discovery is qualified as one of the most important in Egypt since that of the Tombeau of Tutankhamon in 1922.

The excavations had started in September 2020 and made it possible to discover a city dating from the time of King Amenhotep III, one of the most important pharaohs in ancient Egypt. The discovery city constitutes the largest set on the west bank of the Luxor of the time, which is very well preserved.

It was the famous Egyptian archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass, who directed the expedition. “Many foreign teams have sought this city but have never found it. We were surprised by the discovery of the largest city ever found in Egypt, “he said.

It is the second largest archaeological discovery since the tomb of Tutankhamon ”.
