Six cases of the Indian variant of the coronavirus (B.1.617) were, this Monday, May 3, detected, for the first time, in Tipasa in Algeria, announces the Algerian health authorities.
The Pasteur Institute of Algeria recalls that this variant “is classified by WHO as +varying to follow +after the so-called +worrying variants +, namely the British, South African and Brazilian variants”.
“As part of the sequencing activities relating to the monitoring of variants of the SARS-COV-2 virus, carried out by the Algerian Pasteur Institute on the samples received from the various wilayas of the country, this day May 3, 2021, to the detection of 37 new cases of the British variant (B.1.1.7)”, also indicates the same source.
As for the Nigerian variant (B.1.525), “no new case has been detected on the date of writing this press release,” said the Institute, noting that “research is still in progress”.
