The new variant of the COVVI-19, discovered in southern Africa worried at the highest point. Called B.1.1.529, it was notably detected in South Africa and Botswana.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the alert. Enough to push several countries to take emergency measures.

The European Commission has today proposed to suspend flights from the Southern African region after the discovery of this new variant.

Germany, Italy and England have already activated this measure and will prohibit entry into foreign travelers from South Africa.

France has decided to immediately suspend arrivals from seven countries, including South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia and Eswatini.

Ditto for Japan which decided to tighten its entry restrictions for travelers from six southern African countries including South Africa. People from these six countries arriving on Japanese soil, from Saturday, will be subject to around forty days.

The new variant of the COVID-19 called B.1.1.529, has a large number of mutations, and this is what is worried about the WHO.

South African scientists have detected more than 30 changes, according to a press briefing organized by the South African Ministry of Health yesterday, and would combine mutations that make the virus more resistant to vaccines but also more contagious.
