While more than 77 countries have now reported this new strain, the WHO fears a relapse of the epidemiological situation in the world.
Faced with the unprecedented rhythm of the propagation of the omicron variant, the WHO called on Tuesday to use all the anti-Cavid tools available to avoid overload of health systems.
“77 countries have now reported cases of omicron, but the reality is that Imon is likely in most countries even if it has not yet been detected,” said WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, at a press conference held yesterday in Geneva.
“We are concerned about the fact that people consider omicron as Benin. (…) Even if Omicron causes less serious symptoms, the number of cases could once again overwhelm the health systems that are not prepared, “he added.
