WHO warns against a case tsunami

The World Health Organization (WHO) compared the wave of contaminations with the Mutants Omicron and Delta to a “tsunami” and warned that global health systems could collapse, at a time when many countries in the world record COVVI-19 cases.

Global contamination rates increased by 37% between December 22 and 28, compared to the previous seven days, according to an assessment published by AFP and based on French data.

A total of 6.55 million cases were recorded between December 22 and 28, the highest balance sheet since the WHO declared the world pandemic coronavirus in March 2020.

WHO Secretary General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his concern by the fact that the propagation of omicron, which is the most contagious strain, at the same time as Delta, will lead to a case tsunami.

“This represents a huge burden on already tired health workers and on health systems that are on the verge of collapse,” he regretted, at a press conference.
