The American president urged his fellow citizens to leave Ukraine without delay. It was followed on Friday by the United Kingdom and Norway which launched calls similar to their nationals in the country. The war could explode at any time in Ukraine, worries the West, while for Washington, the Russian invasion could intervene this weekend. “We continue to see very disturbing signs of a Russian escalation,” said Antony Blinken, the head of American diplomacy revealing a Russian invasion within 48 hours.
The United States believes that such an invasion would begin with air bombings and could include “a quick assault” against kyiv, said the senior White House.
The origins of the last outbreak of violence between the two countries dates back to October 2021. It was on this date that a massive military deployment of Russia began along the Ukrainian border.
At the origin of this crisis, Russia firmly opposes a possible expansion of NATO and wants to have the guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO. It is a position shared by its close ally, China.
