The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, decreed a three -day mourning for death yesterday, Thursday, December 29, of the legendary footballer Pelé, in a decree published in the Official Journal.
“Official mourning is decreed throughout the country (…), a mark of respect after the death of Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, Pelé”, from cancer at 82, can be read in this decree.
Pelé, died yesterday at the age of 82, struck down by colon cancer that had worsened in recent days, cardiac and renal shortcomings forcing him to return to São Paulo hospital in palliative care.
EDSON ARANTES DO NASCIMENTO, born October 23, 1940 in Tres Coraçoes in Brazil, played until his 37 years in football, was three times world champion with La Seleçao (1958, 1962 and 1970).
He had started his career as a professional player in 1956 in Santos, and joined the Brazilian selection, with the famous number 10 in the back, the following year, at 17 years old.
