The British government announced this Thursday, March 10, 2022, the implementation of new sanctions against Russian oligarchs in retaliation for the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
Seven oligarchs are affected by these sanctions since they undergo a freezing of their assets, a prohibition of transactions and a ban on travel.
The targeted personalities are Roman Abramovitch, owner of the Chelsea club; Oleg Deripaska, his former trading partner; Rosneft Igor Setchine, CEO of the Russian oil giant Rosneft; Andreï Kostin, president of the VTB bank; Alexei Miller, CEO of Gazprom; Nikolai Tokarev, president of Transneft; and Dmitri Lebedev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Rossiya.
Recall that Roman Abramovich, owner of the Chelsea FC, has been in the crosshairs of the British government since the start of the crisis, which criticized him proximity to Vladimir Putin.
The Russian oligarch had decided to take a step back since the start of the war in Ukraine and made the decision to sell the club as well as the various properties and many goods he has in England.
