The east, Widad, Raja and Al Ahly of Egypt are, so far, the four Arab clubs officially selected to participate in the first African Super League scheduled for August 2023.
Good news for eastern supporters: the dean of Tunisian clubs, who has just celebrated his 104th anniversary, was officially selected to participate in the first edition of the African Super League scheduled for August 2023.
It is part of the Arab quarter officially selected to participate in this edition with the title African champion, the Wydad of Casablanca, Al Ahly of Egypt, and the Raja of Casablanca.
In the coming days, a joint delegation of FIFA and CAF will go to Morocco to meet the managers of the two clubs in Casablanca to sign their participation contracts.
The African delegation will include the Chairman of the Organizing Committee on Interclub competitions, the adviser to Gianni Infantino, and European officials from the African Super League company.
In addition to the four Arab clubs, four teams on the continent were officially selected who are: TP Mazembe, Sundowns, Horoya Conakry and Hearts of Oak. These eight clubs are the only ones to meet the specifications relating to this competition.
The African Football Confederation announced, on August 10, 2022, a new format of continental competition for clubs. The Super League will bring together 24 clubs from 16 countries on the continent from August 2023.
The competition will be divided into three groups of eight teams geographically divided (north, center-west and south-east). The selection of participants will be based on the results obtained in the two annual CAF competitions, namely the African Champions League and the CAF Cup.
The first season will be played from August 2023 to May 2024 and will include 197 matches. The finalists will play 21 games maximum.
The winner of the competition will receive the tidy sum of $ 100 million.
In your marks!
