A resolution proposed by Pakistan which makes every March 15 a day of fighting Islamophobia was adopted Tuesday by the members of the United Nations General Assembly.
Islamophobia is defined as fear or fear of Islam, but whose meaning can also designate the notion of hostility towards Islam or Muslims.
According to AFP agency, the text “calls for the strengthening of international efforts to promote a global dialogue on the promotion of a culture of tolerance and peace at all levels, based on respect for human rights and the diversity of religions and convictions”.
The resolution, too, “deplores all acts of violence against people on the basis of their religion or their convictions and the acts directed against their places of worship, as well as all the attacks against and in the places, sites and religious sanctuaries, which are a violation of international law”.
