The COVVI-19 pandemic is far from over, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday March 18.
The WHO reports, in this sense, that the number of new contaminations reported internationally increased by 8% between the first and second week of March, when they had not stopped lowering since the end of January.
“We are in the middle of the pandemic,” said Margaret Harris during a press briefing, adding that it was “far from over”.
“During last week, we found an increase of 8% of the cases detected, with more than 11 million cases reported to the WHO, despite a significant reduction in screening tests worldwide,” added WHO expert Maria Van Kerkhove, reports the AFP agency.
Note also that continental China has recorded its first two dead from COVID-19 for more than a year, the National Commission of Health, at the time when the country has undergone its greatest upsurge in coronavirus since the start of the pandemic on Saturday 19 March.
