The term “Great Israel” Regularly returns to debates in the Middle East. But what exactly does it mean and what are its implications for the region?

THE “” Great Israel »» is a political and ideological concept aimed at extending the state of Israel beyond its current borders, notably by encompassing certain historical areas of Judea, Samaria and Galileo. In its widest form, some extremists even include territories of Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.

This concept finds its roots in the religious and nationalist Zionismwho considers that the modern state of Israel should cover the entire “land of Israel” as described in the Bible. However, no official definition exists and interpretations vary according to political and religious currents.

On a political level, the idea of “great Israel” is strongly contested internationally. It often involves the annexation of Palestinian territories and the questioning of a two -state solution, which raises serious legal and diplomatic problems. Most international countries and organizations consider these demands as A threat to regional stability and an obstacle to peace in the Middle East.

In practice, some Israeli officials use this concept as a symbolic or strategic argument to justify maximum control over the West Bank. For Arab countries and the international community, there remains a sensitive subjectsymbol of historical and current tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.

Understanding the “great Israel” is therefore to grasp an essential part of conflicts and negotiations in the Middle East, between historical claims, religion and contemporary geopolitical realities.
