Al-Qaeda chief Ayman Al Zawahiri was killed this weekend in a drone attack by the United States, US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday 2 August.
“Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in an American strike,” said US President Joe Biden. “Justice has been done,” he said.
According to a high American representative, the American intelligence services determined with a “high degree of confidence” that the man killed was Ayman Al Zawahiri. “The latter was killed while he was on the balcony of a Kabul house which he shared with members of his family.”
The United States has determined this year that the wife and children of Ayman Al Zawahiri had settled in a “hideout” in Kabul, before identifying the presence of Zawahiri himself on the scene, reports of international media.
