Algiers is in the process of completing the nationalization of Djezzy, the second mobile operator in Algeria by buying the shares of the Dutch telecommunications group Veon against a check for $ 682 million.
The State thus becomes the only master on board in the capital of the two operators, Djezzy and Mobilis, a subsidiary of Algeria Telecom.
That said, the nationalization of Djezzy could be a threat to competition on the Algerian telecoms market.
According to the latest “Observatory of the mobile telephony market” of the La Poste and Electronic Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcpe), Djezzy held 31.04% of market share in December 2021, against 42.18% for Mobilis and 26.78% for Ooredoo.
