Salman Rushdie, the British author of the world bestseller “The Satanic verses”, was stabbed this Friday, August 12 on stage in New York, his state of health is currently unknown.
“A suspect rushed to the scene (of an amphitheater) and attacked Rushdie and an interviewer. Rushdie suffered from an apparent neck injury after being stabbed and was transported to hospital by helicopter. His condition is not yet known, “said New York State police in a statement, stating that the attacker was immediately arrested and placed in detention.
Born in 1947 in Bombay, this British author was the subject of a “fatwa” claiming his assassination since 1989, when he published the “Satanic Verses”, which had embraced the Muslim world.
“My problem is that people continue to perceive me under the sole prism of the fatwa,” said a writer, not a symbol a few years ago.
