The entire northern part of the grain silos damaged by the devastating explosion at the port of Beirut in 2020 collapsed, today Tuesday, August 23, 2022, according to certain sources of information.
The towers that collapsed were the last in the northern block of the silos.
For the time being, the southern block is stable, according to French civilian engineer Emmanuel Durand who installed sensors inside the silos.
A cloud of smoke was formed after the collapse of eight laps of the structure damaged by the breath of the explosion of August 4, 2020 which left more than 200 dead and 6,500 injured and devastated from the entire districts of the Lebanese capital.
The deflagration had been launched that day in a warehouse sheltering hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate stored without precaution.
On July 31 and August 4, other laps had collapsed after a fire broke out in the most damaged part of the silos, caused by authorities and experts by the fermentation of remaining cereal stocks, combined with high temperatures.
