The African club reacted, today to the events that enamels, yesterday the basketball meeting between its team and that of the Radésian sports star at the Cherif Bellamine room in El Gorjani.

This meeting, entering the semi-finals of the super play-off of the Pro A Basketball Championship, was interrupted (the CA led 20-8) following a muscular police intervention which caused a stampede, the collapse of the safety barriers and the fall of several clubists.

The African club condemned, in a statement dated this Tuesday, April 11, “any attack on the dignity or the physical integrity of its supporters and expressed its unconditional support to its audience after these events as it called for the opening of an investigation”.

While reiterating its respect for state institutions, the African club also called for respect for its rights as well as the dignity of its supporters. “The club will do everything possible to defend the public,” reads the press release.

The CA has attributed the “sporting responsibility” of these events to the Tunisian basketball federation and “warned against a possible instrumentalization of the sports law to serve the interests of third parties”.

The African club also called to replay this match as soon as possible at the Gorjani room and in the presence of its audience.

According to videos published on social networks, a muscular police intervention caused a jostling which caused the collapse of the security barriers and the fall of several clubists.

According to Sami Kadhi, president of the Basketball section of the African Club, the match had however “started in normal conditions, in the presence of supporters of the two teams”, explaining in a declaration at Mosaic FM that “the use of tear gas provoked these scenes and the jostling that could have made victims”.

The official spokesperson for the Interior Ministry said, on the microphone of IFM that police officers tried to push the supporters to leave the room before retiring after the collapse of the barriers.
