Edward Fitzalan-Howard, 65, Duke of Norfolk who also holds the title of Comte Maréchal, was sentenced to six months of license withdrawal by the Lavender Hill Magistrate’Court in London for having used his mobile phone and burned a red light while he was driving his car on April 7.
The Duke of Norfolk who organized the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19, tried in vain to avoid a permit suspension yesterday Monday September 26, 2022, arguing that he needed his car to prepare the coronation of King Charles III.
The Duke of Norfolk, the highest placed in England who also holds the title of Count Marshal, had already had two contraventions for speeding in 2019, hence the severity of the sanction.
However, the Duke’s lawyer had asked the judge during the hearing not to apply the ban because of his role in the coronation ceremony of the new king, which should take place next year.
