Yesterday in Carthage, the connoisseurs loved it, the novices appreciated, the communion was total. The repertoire offered last night had the gift of sweeping the eardrums, to clean them with all these rudeness that we hear all day long.
Seventy-five minutes of instrumental music where Tempo Jazzy and your Arab-Muslim skillfully intertwine, all rocked by a sound of glaciers. The ignorant would have had the reflex to categorize “memories” as yet another film music.
It was rather a throbbing and languid wave which felt the desire to fly away, to roar, but which was stopped each time by the sirens. A timeless, sulfurous but also and above all intimate, poisonous and bewitching musical production.
The slow pace was only there to make the power of the assemblies appreciate between the different instruments. As of, then, we understand better why Anouar Brahem does not leave his acolytes that are François Couturier on the piano, Björn Meyer on bass and Klaus Gesing in the low clarinet.
