At least 59 migrants, 12 of which were perished yesterday during the sinking of their boat in the Mediterranean near the Italian city of Crotone en Calabria (South).
According to the coast guard, the boat, a wooden sailboat, carried around 120 people and broke on rocks a few meters from the coast, the firefighters evoking “more than 200 people”.
Images of the Italian police have shown debris of wood scattered over a hundred meters from the beach where many rescuers and survivors were awaiting their transfer to a reception center.
Many of these migrants came from Afghanistan and Iran. About 81 people survived this drama.
