At least 85 people were killed and more than 322 injured this Thursday, April 20, 2023, in Yemen in a bruising stampede, during a charitable action in the capital Sanaa.
“Eighty-five people were killed, and more than 322 were injured” in the jostling at night during a charitable operation organized in the district of Bab El-Yemen, according to a Houthi security official in Sanaa.
“Children are among the deceased” and around fifty injured are in serious condition, according to the official.
This crowd movement took place in a school in the old town district, where hundreds of people had gathered to receive financial aid.
A senior Houthi official awarded the disaster to “excess world” in the narrow street leading to school. When the doors opened, the crowd rushed to the stairs leading to the school courtyard where the distribution was planned, said Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, member of the Supreme Political Council of the Rebels.
But some witnesses say that shots caused the crowd movement.
