Tunisia firmly condemned the autodafé of the Holy Quran by an extremist in Stockholm (Sweden) at a time when Muslims around the world celebrate the feast of Eid El Idha.

Tunisia expressed its lively conviction of this action, believing that it is a garish intimidation and a deliberate offense to the feelings of Muslims around the world, said a statement published this Thursday, June 29, 2023, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad.

She expressed her categorical rejection of this odious crime and these hateful practices which have no connection with freedom of thought or expression and which oppose the universal values devoted by celestial books.

Faced with these repeated acts, Tunisia has called on the international community to intervene in an emergency to end the rise of autodafé acts of the Holy Koran and Islamophobia and to court their authors.

Tunisia has also emphasized the need to banish violence, hatred and extremism, calling for prevailing the values of the middle, of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between the peoples advocated by the august religion of Islam.

On Wednesday, a man of Iraqi origin burned pages of the Holy Quran during an authorized demonstration in front of the Great Mosque in Stockholm in Sweden, in concomitance with the Festival of Eid El Idha.
