Thursday evening took place the opening ceremony of the section A certain look of the Cannes Film Festival.
This section derived from the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, created in 1978, concerns an original cinema, films more daring than those of the official section and generally those of directors still little known, innovative and young.
Personally A certain look is my favorite section. I discover different films there, with a different look, films that we unfortunately do not see in the commercial circuits, especially with us in Tunisia.
The selection A certain look Includes around twenty films each year, announced at the same time as those of the official selection. Often contribute in this section of country films that we see much less in other sections such as the countries of northern European, Africa, South America, India, Iran, Japan …
In addition to the Un Certain Regard Prize which rewards the best film and has a help from distribution in France of 30,000 euros, other prizes, left to the discretion of the members of the jury, reward the best staging, the best actors, the best scenario….
Over the years, five Tunisian films have already been selected in this section:
- In 1978, Ambassadors from Naceur Ktari
- In 1983, Africa Camera by Ferid Boughdir
- In 1986, The man of ash de Nouri Bouzid
- In 1987, Arab camera by Ferid Boughdir
- In 1989, Gold hooves de Nouri Bouzi
And finally, the film Beauty and pack From Kaouthar Ben Hania is selected in this year 2017. It was presented yesterday worldwide. In the evening a reception was organized in his honor.
The opening ceremony ofA certain look started with the presentation of the 18 films that contribute this year, with a projection of extracts from each of them. Then, the members of the jury went on stage. Four members of the jury, chaired this year by American actress Uma Thurman: the French actor Reda Kateb, the Belgian director Joachim Lafosse, Karel Och (artistic director of the Karlovy International Festival Vary – Czech Republic) and the Egyptian director Mohamed Diab.
In 2016, the film Clash by Mohamed Diabhad opened this section. Clash was also in competition at the Carthage 2016 cinematographic days and there was won four prizes.
In 2017, it is The French film Barbara by Mathieu Amalric who opened.
