The Libyan National Union Government has decided to dismiss the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najla El Mangoush, of its functions, announced a government source.
Najla El Mangoush had been suspended yesterday, Sunday August 27, 2023 against the backdrop of meeting with her Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, a few days ago in Rome. An administrative investigation had been launched against him.
This case follows the announcement made yesterday by the Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen according to which he spoke with his Libyan counterpart Najla al-Mangoush during an “unprecedented” meeting in Rome a few days ago, according to a statement from his office.
A meeting, which was held under the auspices of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, according to the press release.
“I spoke with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Great Potential represented by relations between the two countries,” said Cohen, adding that he had mentioned with the Libyan minister “the importance of preserving the heritage of Libyan Judaism through the reparation of Jewish synagogues and cemeteries in this country”.
According to the Minister, it is a “first step in the relationship between Israel and Libya”. “The size and strategic place of Libya offer an immense opportunity for the State of Israel,” he said and whose comments were reported by AFP.
