During a joint press conference with his Vietnamese counterpart Luong Cuong, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi strongly condemned the current offensive in Gaza, which he described as a “war of famine and genocide”.
“It is no longer a war with a political objective,” he said, stressing that the Gaza Strip now underwent systematic destruction. Al-Sissi recalled that before the start of the conflict, between 600 and 700 humanitarian aid trucks entered the Palestinian enclave every day, against zero today.
The Egyptian president again challenged the great powers, in particular the European Union and the United States, asking them to assume their responsibilities to put an end to a war which he considers as a “annihilation”. “History will severely judge this silence,” he warned.
Faced with the accusations pointing to Egypt as a co-responsible for the blockade imposed on Gaza, Al-Sissi categorically rejected these allegations, describing them as “moral bankruptcy”. He said more than 5,000 aid trucks were currently stationed in Egyptian territory, ready to enter Gaza, adding that more than 70 % of this aid came from Egypt.
The head of state also assured that his country was willing to intensify his humanitarian efforts. He recalled that five crossing points connect Egypt to the Gaza Strip, including the position of Rafah, which, according to him “has never been closed on the Egyptian side”. However, he said that this position had been “destroyed four times since the start of the war” and rebuilt each time by Egypt.
But Al-Sissi insisted: “The real lock is Israeli control on the Palestinian side. This is a point that the world must clearly understand. »»
True to its historical position, Egypt, he concluded, will continue to be “an entry door for the delivery of aid to Gaza”, while affirming with firmness: “We will never be an exit door for the deportation of the Palestinians. »»
