In an unprecedented decision that could upset tourist flows to the United States, the US State Department announced the establishment, from August 20, of a pilot program requiring nationals of certain countries a deposit of up to $ 15,000 for obtaining a tourist (B-2) or business (B-1) visa.

This measure, which will concern about 2,000 applicantsis part of a goal of Reduction of length of stay (Overstay), a phenomenon that concerned more than half a million people in 2023 according to the American authorities.

In addition to this financial guarantee, the US government has also planned the upcoming establishment of a “Visa Integrity Fee” $ 250, non -refundable, intended to strengthen migratory security.

For Washington, it is a question of empowering visa and Reduce the abuse of the migratory system. But for some countries targeted, this policy could be perceived as discriminatory or penalizing, especially for families or young professionals.
