On the sidelines of Carthage’s cinematographic days (JCC) and at a press conference held on November 9, 2018 at the Maison de la Culture Ibn Khaldoun in Tunis, Mr. Sayed Fouad, president of the Luxor African Film Festival (Laff) and Mme Azza Elhosseinge, General Manager of this same festival, announced that the next edition will be dedicated to March 15 Tunisian cinema, to which a great tribute will be paid.
A working session took place between the management of the Laff and Mrs. Chiraz Laatiri, Director General of the National Center for Cinema and Image (CNCI), in the presence of Mr. Tarek Ben Chaabane, to discuss the details of this tribute. A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Laff and the CNCE next month.
The tribute will consist of:
– The presentation of a new book on Tunisian cinema, written by Tarek Ben Chaabane. The work will be published in Arabic and French.
– The creation of a special section devoted to tribute to Tunisian cinema with the screening of five films that will represent Tunisian cinema in its evolution, in the presence of their directors. These films will be selected in collaboration with the CNCI.
– an exhibition of twenty posters of Tunisian films
– The presence of a large delegation of Tunisian filmmakers, including producer Mr. Néjib Ayed, Director General of the JCC, Ms. Lamia Guiga, artistic director of the JCC and the directors of the five films in the special section.
– A round table will be devoted to Tunisian cinema.
– A special edition of the Laff daily life will be dedicated to film production in Tunisia and the role of the CNCI and JCC in promoting this production.
– and of course the participation of Tunisian films in the various competitions and sections of the festival and the invitation of the directors to take part in these activities.
The management of the Luxor African Film Festival wanted to specify that this tribute to Tunisian cinema is widely deserved given the specificity of this cinematography which is distinguished by its professionalism and its high artistic quality. It is also a tribute to the great and prestigious festival that is the cinematographic days of Carthage.
