For several weeks, the programming of our Tunisian cinemas has been very interesting. Several films selected or awarded at the biggest festivals, Some people named for Oscarsare currently on display.

Among these films, we find:

– the magnificent Bohemian Rhapsodywhich has just won two Golden Globes: best dramatic film and best dramatic actor for Rami Malek For his interpretation of singer Freddie Mercury. A film not to be missed under any circumstances.

– Green Book (on the Southern Roads)from Peter Farrelly. Nominated 78 times, this feature film won 38 prizes, including three Golden Globes: best screenplay, best musical film or comedy and best supporting role assigned to Mahershala Ali. Grenn Book has just been appointed for the Oscars of the best film, best actor for Viggo Mortensen, best original script, best actor in a supporting role for Ali Mahershala and best editing.

Grenn Book was the opening film of the 40th Edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) which was held from November 20 to 29, 2018.

This beautiful film, inspired by a true story, will be on our Tunisian screens from the end of January 2019.

Synopsis: In 1962, Tony Lip, Italian-American security agent, was committed to driving and protecting Don Shirley, a famous African-American jazz pianist during his tour in the very conservative south of the United States, where Jim Crow law segregationists were applied. However, they must use The Negro Motorist Green Bookthe guide indicating the places accepting color people.

For those who can, on Netflix it is also possible to see Roma From Alfonso Cuaron, the film which for some would be among the most beautiful films of the year. This Mexican feature film, also screened at the Cairo International Film Festival in Official Selection Hors Competition, won the Golden Globes for best director and best film in a foreign language. He is also nominated for the Bafta and has just been appointed for the Oscars in ten categories, including the best film, best production, best actress and best film in a foreign language, which he is very good at winning. Personally, even if I agree that this film is technically perfect and that the images are magnificent, I find that it does not deserve all the craze it is the subject. I found it cold. He does not arouse any emotion. And soporific slowness.

It should be noted that several other films that have won prestigious prizes and appointed for 2019 Oscars have already been distributed in Tunisia, such as films Blackkklansman of Spike Lee, A Star is Born de Bradley Cooper, The return of Mary Poppins from Rob Marshall, First Man by Damien Chazelle and Spiderman Into the Spider pays de Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey.

A few days ago, American actress Gleen Close won the Golden Globe for best actress for her role in the film The Wife (wife)produced by Björn Runge.

Crying, she thanked the film team and had pronounced a few very moving words: ” … .. I think of my mother who really devoted her life to my father all her life. When she had become an octogenarian, she told me that she felt that she had not accomplished anything. I had felt bad, as if I had learned through all this experience that women were only nurses, that’s what we expected from us. We have our children, we have husbands if we are lucky and partners or other, but we must find a personal accomplishment, we must fill our lives and continue our dreams, say I can do this and have the right to do so.

When I was young, like Mohamed Ali who felt that he was intended to be a boxer, I felt intended to be an actress, I watched the Disney and Hayley Mills films and I said that I could do this. I am here today and it will be 45 years in September that I am a professional actress and I cannot imagine a more beautiful life… ”.

Very beautiful speech which is of circumstance since The Wife Tell the story of a woman who has completely devoted herself to her husband’s career by forgetting herself completely. For years and years, she had erased for him until the day she had had enough and that the bitterness accumulated throughout the years had resurfaced.

This magnificent film was part of the International Panorama section of the 40th Edition of the Cairo International Film Festival.

The Wife was not the only “feminist” film to have been programmed as part of this edition of the festival. In reality (is this a coincidence or a deliberate choice of the organizers?) Several films dealt with the problems of women.

We can cite two more particularly:

– The film Cretois Breakdirected by Tonia Mishiali. This film tells the despair of a fiftieth anniversary, stuck in an unhappy marriage and which aspires to free it. Very very beautiful film, so realistic and sad because it tells the situation of millions of women around the world.

– The Vietnamese film The Third Wife (the third wife)produced by Ash Mayfair. In the Vietnamese countryside in the 19th century, May will become the 3th wife of a rich landowner …

A film of extreme sensitivity.

The Third Wife has also won the prize for the best artistic contribution to the CIFF.

I send a prayer to our Tunisian distributors so that these three films are screened in our rooms. Not only for their qualities and out of love of beautiful cinema, but also for their themes and so that they can perhaps contribute to denouncing the injustices that women are still the subject.
