Oscars 2019 – and the winner will be …

More than a few hours and will start the most anticipated cinema event of the year: the 2019 Oscar ceremony, which will take place at Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, Sunday, February 24, 2019 (due to jet lag, in our part of the world, the ceremony will take place from 2 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. on the night of Sunday to Monday). About 32 million viewers around the world will be there to discover the winners who will leave with the most prestigious prize in the world of cinema.

For the first time in 30 years, there will be no main presenter of the evening. Indeed, Kevin Hart who had been chosen to present the evening had decided to withdraw after being accused of homophobia. He had not been replaced.

The Queen group revealed that it will perform on stage during this ceremony.

The list of films and artists appointed had been unveiled on January 22, 2019 (Complete list here). In mind, the two films Roma And The favourite With 10 nominations each. Follow A Star is Born And Vice with each 8 nominations, then Black PantheR with 7 nominations, Blackkklansman 6 appointments and Green Book And Bohemian Rhapsody With 5 appointments each.

For the past few weeks already, we have lived to the rhythm of the forecasts, each trying to guess which happy winners will win the famous and so coveted statuette.

Unsurprisingly, Roma De Alfonso Cuaron is in the lead for the Oscar for the best film (he has just won the BAFTA in this same category). He is closely followed by Green Book of Peter Farrelly. In the event of a victory, Roma will enter the history of cinema as the first Netflix film to win this Oscar.

Roma is also the favorite in the best film in a foreign language. He also won the Golden Globe and the Bafta in this same category. Some rare people give a chance to the Polish film Cold War by Pawel Pawlikowski (staging prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival).

As for the Oscar for best director, almost all are unanimous, he will in principle return to Alfonso Cuaron for his film Roma. You have to admit that it really deserves it. Alfonso Cuaron has already won the Golden Globe in this same category.

Regarding the Oscar of Best Actress, Glenn Close is the one who has the most chance of winning this award for her role in the film The Wife. She had already won the Golden Globe for this same role and had occasionally delivered a very moving speech. She is closely followed by actress Olivia Colman who plays Queen Anne in the film The Favourite. The latter has just won the BAFTA for this same role.

Two actors quarrely the Oscar for best actor: the actor of Egyptian origin Rami Malek for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (for which he has already won the Golden Globe and the Bafta) and Christian Bale for having embodied the vice president Dick Cheney in Vice.

Two Arab films are appointed to the Oscars, but we unfortunately do not see them in any prognosis, it is the feature film fiction Shambles of Nadine Labaki (Prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival) and the Syrian documentary Of Fathers and Sons from Talal Derki.

To summarize, the favorites in these five categories are:

  • Best film: Roma Or Green Book
  • Best foreign language film:: Roma
  • Best director: Alfonso Cuaron
  • Best actress: Glenn Close
  • Best actor: Rami Malek

Personally, if I had the privilege of being able to vote, I would have chosen:

  • Best movie For Green Bookeven if we can blame him for classicism or failing that to Bohemian Rhapsody, Even if criticisms in general were not tender with the film and that it is accused of having watered down the life of Freddie Mercury and not to have insisted on his homosexuality.
  • Best director For Alfonso Cuaron (Roma).
  • Best actress Without hesitation for Glenn Close (The Wife).
  • Best actor For Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) which was magnificent. In reality, he did not play Freddie Mercury, he rather embodied in Freddie Mercury. To do this, he has accomplished a gigantic work to reproduce all of the singer’s acts and gestures. His performance in Wembley’s concert is breathtaking. No other actor among those named has been so sublime.
  • Best foreign language film For Cold War (Poland). Very beautiful film, whose theme is topical in our Arab countries: choose to stay in your country and undergo the restrictions of freedom or leave and risk losing everything including the love of your life?
I might also have voted for Shambles (Lebanon) because it is a Lebanese film and I would have been proud that a Arab film wins this prestigious prize.
  • Best photo Without hesitation for the Mexican film Romawhich I did not love because of its slowness.
  • Best sets For Black Panther.
  • Best documentary For Of Fathers and Sons (Syria) of Talal Derki. It is a very beautiful documentary that shows relations between a Daeshian father and his children. The director risked his life to deliver this precious testimony to us.
  • Best actress in a second role For Emma Stone in The Favourite.
  • Best actor in a supporting role For Mahershala Ali in Green Book.
  • Best costumes For Black Panther.

And the winner is….

Several of these films are currently at the cinema in Tunisgo see them.
