The Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu will be the president of the jury of the Cannes festival whose 72nd edition will be held next May.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu will succeed Cate Blanchett, president of the 71st edition of the Cannes Festival whose jury has attributed the Palme d’Or to A family affair of the Japanese director Kore-Eda Hirokazu.
The 2019 Cannes Film Festival will take place from Tuesday, 14 to Saturday 25 May.
Director, producer and screenwriter, winner of several Oscars, Alejandro G. Iñárritu is today one of the most recognized and respected filmmakers in the world.
As soon as he entered the cinema with Amores Perros (Bijages love2000), he is appointed for the Oscar for the best foreign film. The film, presented in Cannes, at the Critics Week, is a drama that probe the Mexican company through three stories linked by a car accident in Mexico.
In 2003, he turned 21 grams (21 grams)his first American film, for which Naomi Watts and Benicio Del Toro are both appointed to the Oscar. In 2017, he designed the VR “Carne y Arena” installation (Virtually Present, Physically Invisible), presented world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival before traveling to Milan, Los Angeles, Mexico and Washington. This is the first time that virtual reality has come into an official selection in Cannes. Hargered by international criticism, “Carne y Arena” received a special Oscar, a reward allocated only fifteen times in the history of the Academy. It was the fifth Oscar won by Alejandro G.
