The Argentina Embassy and the International Organization for Migration (OIM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, organize a children’s football tournament.
This tournament called “World Champions”, thanks to the funding of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UEFA Foundation for Childhood, will celebrate its fourth edition in Sfax, this Sunday, November 12 ,2023, at the Sportissimo sports complex, from 9:00 am.
The purpose of this activity is to transmit to the small sportsmen the values of teamwork and respect for others, which will contribute in return to promote inclusion and the spirit of community cohesion.
Through the presence of arbitrators, a regulation granted between participating schools and the integration of groups of children of different origins, this activity also aims to improve the ability of children to accept and respect the other.
Each individual must have the possibility of practicing sport without discrimination of any kind and in a sporting spirit which requires mutual understanding, the spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.
Any form of discrimination against a country or a person based on considerations of race, religion, politics, sex or others are incompatible with belonging to the sporting spirit.
Through this initiative, the objective is to provide opportunities to children from host and migrant communities living in Tunisia, in particular those in vulnerability, and this through projects that adopt sport and particularly football as a factor of change.
These activities implemented in the target regions aim to promote the inclusion and development of the capacities of Tunisian and migrant children, in particular those with risky or vulnerability.
Since its creation in 2020, the tournament has developed widely. While the first edition was played with only two teams, the third edition (2022) involved seven academies, or nearly 100 children affected.
This year, eight teams will play for the “world champions” trophy for the first time at the governorate of Sfax, outside the Grand Tunis.
