There 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival ended last night.
Twelve days of various projections and events, a very rich edition. Twenty -one films in official competition, the majority of very high quality.
During these twelve days, we talked a lot movies, stars, and especially forecasts. What film will win the Palme d’Or?
The first days, the Spanish film Pain and glory From Pedro Almodovar, with the main roles Antonio Banderas and Pénélope Cruz, was the undisputed favorite, and then he had to suffer competition from the Korean film Parasite de Bong Joon Ho, until the penultimate day, after the screening of the Palestinian film It must be heaven From Elia Suleiman, the trend has changed, some qualifying this feature film as a golden nugget.
Without forgetting of course the movies Sorry we miss you from Ken Loach, and One Upon a Time… in Hollywood From Quentin Tarantino, although for the first some have found that the subject of social injustice and workers who are struggling all day long without improving their situation is a little exhausted and that the director should renew himself a little and for the second that he is far from up to the previous films of the same director.
The film A hidden life De Terence Malick also had his chances, some finding him magnificent, with very beautiful images and a lot of poetry, others reproaching him for his slowness.

The golden palm and the special mention of the jury for the short films were given by the president of the jury of short films and the Cinéfondation, Claire Denis and by Nadine Labaki, president of the jury a certain look.

The very beautiful film The miserable really deserved its price. A very strong film, which challenges the condition of young people in the French suburbs. Apart from the quote from Victor Hugo “There is no weeds or bad men. There are only bad cultivators ”, there is no connection to this author’s novel, except that we could say that the years and even the centuries pass and the miserable are still there, and that the Cosette and Gavroche still exist today!
A great disappointment and even misunderstanding in the face of this track record: the price of the Jury Ex-Aequo for the Brazilian film Bacurau. During the screening, the spectators left the room so bad was bad. Incomprehensible scenario, mediocre actors … It was already surprising that this film was selected in Cannes, but from there to have a price !!!! And ex-aequo with such a beautiful film as The miserableit’s really amazing and even shocking!
One question too, is Emily Beecham really deserved its price for better female interpretation? Probably. But it’s the film Little Joe which is disappointing. A film that starts with a very interesting idea: the risks linked to genetic manipulations, but which then gets bogged down in endless rehearsals and which does not know where it wants to go. It’s really a shame.
To conclude, as Edouard Baer, master of this closing evening so well said, for twelve days, there have been discussions, yawns, battles, disputes, comments, divergent opinions about films scheduled for the 72nd Cannes Festival, the next few days, we will have the same discussions, the same shouting, the same battles, the same. Still divergent opinions about the various records of this same edition!
And that’s good, this is how cinema remains alive and spectators, whether professional or profane, are interested in it and love it!
